USA vs CANADA - RESULTS

Saturday's USA vs Canada event was a huge success and we'd like to thank all of our excellent fans and sponsors for helping to make this event possible. It was a packed house at the Hilton Hotel, the fights were full of action, and the crowd was one of the best we've seen in quite some time. Below are quick results of the night, we will have more detailed results in the next few days.

Fight #1 - Muay Thai Exhibition

Jon Cichon (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN) vs Brandon Buchholz (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN)

After a few different opponents fell through for Cichon, Buchholz stepped up to do a 3-round exhibition match against his training partner. The two put on a great display of Thai Boxing technique in the ring and entertained the fans.

This bout was not scored.

Fight #2 - Muay Thai Rules

Dan Naing (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN) vs John DeFile (MN Militia - Taylors Falls, MN)

Naing came out throwing big leg kicks while DeFile's boxing attack. He scored a knockdown in the first round and referee, Scott Fischer called an end to this bout in the second round.

Fight #3 - Muay Thai Rules

Nick Traffie (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN) vs Forest Lyon (MN Kali Group - Minneapolis, MN)

This may have been the fight of the night as these two 16y olds were in an all-out war! Both fighters exchanged a barrage of punches, leg kicks, and knees in a very close, back-n-forth battle.

Nick Traffie wins by Split Decision: 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.


Fight #4 - Full Contact Kickboxing

Bryn Ollerman (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN) vs Chris Schorrock (P.M.A. - Thunder Bay, Ontario)

This bout was a rematch from their first meeting one year ago. Ollerman made his amateur debut the first time they met, but he came into this bout with much more experience and it showed. He scored a knockdown in the 1st round, and Schorrock lost a point in the second round for not getting his kicks in.

Fight #5 - Full Contact Kickboxing

Troy Sexton (National Karate - Savage, MN) vs Joel Ellenbecker (Karate America - Neenah, WI)

This was a battle of karate Black Belts making their amateur debuts. Both young fighters put on a great show for the fans and thrilled the audience with their impressive kicks.

Fight #6 - Full Contact Kickboxing

Aaron Swenson (LA Boxing - Chicago, IL) vs Dave Pekarek (Twin City Kickboxing - Minneapolis, MN)

USAKA U.S. Welterweight Title

It was an intriguing matchup as both fighters have similar styles and a wealth of experience, but this bout was all Swenson. His hand speed gave Pekarek problems from the opening bell as he dropped Pekarek once in the first round and again in the second. After another powerful exchange in the third round, referee Scott Fischer called an end to the bout.

Fight #7 - Full Contact Kickboxing

Lisa Van Ahn (The Cellar - Minneapolis, MN) vs Jackie Lachapelle (Team Abu Zayd - Oakville, Ontario)

With the crowd in an absolute frenzy, the local favorite, Lisa Van Ahn, took to the ring against the talented Canadian. The bout was incredibly close and back-n-forth as all 3 judges scored the first three rounds differently. The Lachapelle was awarded the fourth round for her aggressive attacks, but Van Ahn came back and stole the 5th on all 3 scorecards. Both fighters showed great kicking and boxing technique throughout the fight, but the final decision went to Team Canada.

Fight #8 - Full Contact Kickboxing

Nathan Key (Greubel's MMA - Augusta, GA) vs Marco Capobianco (Team Abu Zayd - Oakville, Ontario)

This bout did not take place as Capobianco became very ill days before the flght and was hospitalized on Thursday with a stomach infection. We wish Marco a speedy recovery and hopefully these two will get a chance to compete against eachother again in the future.
